Among the many ways for Vermont businesses and organizations to be involved:
|

You can post your Civil War events anytime on the calendar at Vermont's official tourism website, www.vermontvacation.com. Click on “Add a VT Event” in the green mountain graphic at the bottom of the page, and under “Event Category” be sure to select “Civil War.” Reach 2,000 potential customers a day.
Your posting on www.vermontvacation.com insures a similar posting on this website. Special preference will given to events that meet the criteria for Vermont Civil War Sesquicentennial Projects established by the Vermont Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission. These will be forwarded to the Civil War Trust for entry on their national calendar of events.

It's never too early to plan events for regional and national attention. Now is the time to start planning your events and exhibits to be considered as one the top ten Vermont Civil War Sesquicentennial events in 2013.
Is your Vermont Civil War event or exhibit a contender for the Top 10 List? It qualifies if it’s:
· Open to the public
· Takes place in Vermont
· Relates to the Civil War, the Civil War era, and/or the role played by Vermonters on the battlefront and on the home front.
Events can be for any age group and/or interest. Applications will be judged by an independent panel looking for engaging events that forward an understanding and appreciation of Vermont and the Civil War.
Winners will be included in print and web publications and promotions to in-state and out-of-state audiences.
This includes, new this year, Vermont and the Civil War rack card, Vermont Welcome Center displays, and paid advertising.

Vermont’s commemorative activities will take place from 2011 through 2015. In an effort to suggest themes that might guide the development and scheduling of events and programs that address Vermont’s involvement in the Civil War, the Vermont Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission has produced a Framework for Commemorations. Proposed annual themes explore how Vermonters influenced both military actions and ideological thought, and with equal importance, how Vermont’s involvement impacted those remaining at home in Vermont during and after the war years. Municipalities, local libraries, and historical societies may want to feature local Civil War history on town and Chamber of Commerce websites. Vermont abounds in Civil War cemetery markers and monuments, and with guidance from the Vermont Humanities Council, local history can take the form of a walking tour.

Established by Executive Order in 2011, the Commission’s charge is to plan, coordinate and promote events and programs held in Vermont in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War. Activities include a focus on Vermont’s involvement in the Civil War, with the aim to deepen knowledge and understanding of the Civil War as a turning point in American history, and how it has shaped - and continues to shape - who we are as a people, a state, and a nation.
Commission membership represents broad support from Vermont State Agencies and educational non-profit organizations, and their work is greatly enhanced by still more museums, re-enactment groups and tourism partners. |
